Stock chests buffer pulp between process stages. Where stock stops moving it thickens and drains, and lumps of high-consistency stock break away later and upset downstream equipment. The agitator has to keep the whole chest moving, including the corners and the area around the outlet.
The right agitator depends mostly on pulp consistency, because fibre suspensions resist flow more and more steeply as consistency rises. FMT stock chest agitators use a gear drive and a single mechanical seal, with SS 304 or SS 316 wetted parts.
Typical applications
- Pulp stock chests (blend, machine, broke and storage chests)
- Fibre suspension tanks
- Intermediate process tanks
Mixing objectives
- Uniform fibre distribution through the chest
- Less local fibre accumulation and dead zones
- Steady stock to downstream transfer

* A flameproof (FLP) motor is supplied where the site's hazardous-area classification requires it. A non-flameproof motor is offered only where the area allows it.

What we look at when sizing
- Stock consistency (the main sizing factor)
- Fibre length and furnish composition
- Non-Newtonian flow behaviour of the stock
- Process temperature
- Chest shape (round or rectangular) and outlet position
- Access for cleaning
